Dark brown lines articulate the uneven surfaces, giving definition to the gentle colour. An undulating rim, full body and deeply notched foot establish a sculptural presence, while each turn reveals a different balance of warmth and shade.

Artist Context

This work by Kaneta Masanao invites attention to the relationship between vessel and sculptural form. The cup’s volume is shaped by uneven planes and shifting contours; its elevated foot forms an expressive part of the whole. Viewed together, body and base give the vessel a distinct sense of posture.

Artistic Interpretation

“Evening Glow” is our curatorial reading of its colour: a rose-toned light settling over a pale, stony landscape. Dark contours suggest ridgelines, while cooler areas open like pockets of shade. The reddish-brown clay exposed at the foot grounds this atmospheric surface in the physical weight and texture of earth.

Curator’s Selection

Our selection centres on the interplay of tender colour and assertive structure. Rose-blush passages soften the cup’s substantial form, while dark edges and the open, irregular foot retain its visual strength. The pale reverse is integral to the work, extending the experience beyond a single favoured view.

Collector Perspective

For a collector drawn to intimate sculptural objects, this cup offers a rewarding sequence of views. Seen from the side, the foot lifts the body above an opening of shadow; from above, the irregular rim frames a quieter interior. Displayed with space around it, the work allows colour, contour and exposed clay to be considered in turn.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0763/6916/6494/files/kaneta-masanao-rose-blush-footed-cup-01-hero.jpg?v=1789369862
