A deep gunjo blue spreads across the rim and reverse of this Shino guinomi, framing a pale image of Mount Fuji across its front. The strong contrast between the blue-black glaze, creamy white, and restrained blush gives this small vessel an unusual visual depth.

Here, Hayashi Shotaro moves beyond the familiar white and warm-red palette of traditional Shino, using saturated color while preserving its thick glaze and powerful physicality. The dark upper glaze reads like a night sky above the mountain. Glaze gathers, thins, and breaks along the faceted body, while the uneven rim and divided foot reinforce the feeling of a landscape formed through pressure and firing.

This piece was selected for the clarity of its color structure. The blue is not merely decorative; it defines the vessel's rhythm and gives the Mount Fuji motif a distinct sense of distance and atmosphere.

A strong entry into Hayashi's experimental Shino language. Its compact scale supports use, while the dramatic front-to-back color transition rewards viewing it fully in the round.
